Ponta do Altar Lighthouse — Ferragudo

Ponta do Altar Lighthouse

🎟️ €0 🕐 Mon-Sun

The Farol da Ponta do Altar has marked the entrance to the Arade since 1893, a slim lighthouse standing on the ochre cliffs just south of Ferragudo's beaches.

The reward is the walk and the view rather than the tower itself, which is not open: a clifftop path runs out past Praia do Pintadinho and Praia dos Caneiros, over headlands that shelter small hidden coves, to the point where the whole sweep of Portimão bay and the river mouth opens up. It is a favourite at sunset, when the cliffs glow and the light begins its turn — an easy, scenic add-on to a beach afternoon in Ferragudo.
