The Museu do Arroz — the Rice Museum — occupies the old rice-husking factory at the southern entrance of Comporta village, beside the green sweep of the paddies it once served.
Rice has shaped this coast since the nineteenth century, and around 1,100 hectares of paddies still surround the village, farmed under the Herdade da Comporta. The museum keeps the memory of that work: the old husking machinery, photographs and tools of the rice cycle, and the story of the communities — many from elsewhere in Portugal — who came to plant and harvest. It is a modest collection, but it explains the landscape better than anything else in the village; the rice fields outside the door are its living exhibit.
The building also houses a popular restaurant of the same name overlooking the paddies, which makes the museum an easy stop before lunch. Opening hours are longer in summer (Tuesday to Sunday) and shorter in winter (Friday to Sunday), and the entrance fee is symbolic.

History & context
The building worked as the husking factory of the Herdade da Comporta, the estate that has grown rice here since 1925 under the 'Comporta' brand. When industrial milling moved away, the factory became the keeper of the village's agricultural memory.
