Less famous than cataplana but just as local, feijoada de búzios marries the hills and the shore: white beans stewed with sea snails (búzios) prised from the rocks, a little chouriço or bacon, tomato, onion and coriander into a thick, warming pot.
It is old-fashioned coast food — resourceful, full-flavoured and rarely found beyond the Algarve — the snails giving a gentle brine to the beans. Look for it as a winter or shoulder-season dish in the more traditional Ferragudo kitchens, a reminder that the village ate from the rocks as well as the river.
