Vila Galé Collection Figueira da Foz
The Vila Galé Collection Figueira da Foz occupies one of the most recognisable buildings on Portugal’s Silver Coast — the former Grande Hotel da Figueira, opened in June 1953 and classified as a building of public interest since 2002. Designed by architect Inácio Peres Fernandes, the post-modernist landmark is often described as resembling a ship, with its curved bridge and distinctive porthole windows. Original artworks by Thomaz de Mello, José de Molina Sanchez and sculptor Martins Correia remain part of the interior.
Following a full refurbishment by the Vila Galé group, the hotel reopened with 102 rooms — including 52 standard sea-view rooms and one suite — alongside two restaurants, a bar, an outdoor pool, and the Satsanga Spa & Wellness. The main restaurant, Versátil, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner; the Inevitável Steak Lounge offers à la carte dining with terrace seating overlooking the waterfront.
The location is among the strongest in Figueira da Foz: directly facing the immense Praia da Claridade, within a five-minute walk of the Casino Oceano, the Tennis Club, the municipal market and the marina. The historic centre, the Sotto Mayor Palace and the Santos Rocha Municipal Museum all sit within an easy stroll.
The hotel is ideally suited to seaside escapes that value architectural character, a quiet wellness component, and a sense of place — without trading off the practical comforts of a modern four-star property.
