Moura sits among endless olive groves in the eastern Alentejo, close to the great Alqueva lake. Its name comes from the legend of Salúquia, a Moorish girl who threw herself from the castle tower when the town was taken. The old Moorish quarter, the Mouraria, is one of the best preserved in Portugal, and the town's olive oil has been famous for centuries.
