Óbidos · Nazaré Shore Excursion — from Lisbon Cruise Terminal
Óbidos comes first. The town sits inside medieval walls that have stood since the 12th century — a complete fortified village, largely unchanged, perched on a ridge above the surrounding farmland. Your driver drops you at the gate. From there, the morning is yours: walk the ramparts, explore the whitewashed streets, step into one of the small shops selling Ginjinha served in a chocolate cup. It is one of the most photogenic places in Portugal, and one of the least crowded in the morning hours.
Then north, to Nazaré. The road follows the Atlantic coast through pine forests and fishing villages. Nazaré is a working fishing town that has kept its character — the women still wear traditional seven-petticoat skirts, the boats still go out at dawn, and the seafood restaurants along the seafront serve what came in that morning. Lunch here, on the terrace above the beach, is one of those meals you remember.
After lunch, the upper village — Sítio — sits on the cliff above the lower town. The viewpoint looks out over the beach where Garrett McNamara surfed the largest wave ever recorded. On a clear day, the view stretches for miles.
Your driver brings you back to the ship before departure. Guaranteed.
